Old Beauty

Acrylic paint and love was all that was needed to create this Father's day gift!

I spent probably about two days working on this project, mixing colors and making sure I had all of the little details just right. Shading and adding all of the intricate details on the engine of the bike was the most difficult and longest part. My father has a motorcycle so I had to make sure it looked as realistic as possible.

“A perfect Father's day gift it is. Amazed by your 'mad skills' my dear. I love it.” -Kurt Rosenkilde

All of my hard work paid off in the end. My dad ended up loving the painting and is now proudly displayed in our living room.

The Process

I started out by finding a picture of a bike online that I liked. Then I sketched the bike out, along with the sidewalk and street. Once I got started painting, I decided I wanted to make the bike a more teal color so I mixed cobalt blue with a more green blue until I found a color I liked.

The wall in the background is just a a couple different shades of brown layered on top of each other in an imperfect fashion to add some aging to the wall. I decided midway through painting that the wall seemed plain and chose to add in the window.

The street line was a perfect, pure white line, but no street has perfect lines. While the paint was still wet I took a paper towel and just started dabbing at the paint to give it some texture.

On the tiny details of the tire I used a uni-ball waterproof/fade proof pen to have very precise, sharp lines. Other than that, the detail of the engine and sidewalk were all done with paint and a very tiny, square brush.
